Village Fires

The CPM has sensed the Spirit directing us to serve the "Village Fires." This reflects part of our sense of mission to serve a complex KC metro region and suburbs of 2 plus million in population and over a thousand individual diverse churches. In our definition, a "village fire" is any metro city, or identified geographic region in the greater KC area where churches, pastors and people of prayer are gathering to pray for revival and spiritual awakening in that area.

The term "village" is somewhat endearing and reflects a small enough geographic area where all the pastors and leaders can experience relational unity over time and measure the impact of their prayers and outreach efforts. The typical village would have a mayor, local civic leadership, unique social issues, a public school system, unique demographics and a cluster of churches that identify with these areas.

The Citywide Prayer Movement has identified numerous "Village Fires" in the greater KC region in which we are connected in friendship such as: KC Midtown; Wyandotte County, KS; Overland Park, KS; Olathe, KS; Lee's Summit, MO; Raytown, MO; Grandview, MO; North KC; Blue Springs, MO. Our primary gathering place for these village fires is the First Thursday of every month at Colonial Presbyterian Church at 95th and Wornall Ave in Kansas City, MO at 7AM to 8:45 AM.

The Citywide Prayer Movement is not an organization lobbying to get metro leaders and people of prayer to come and "join" with us. Instead we see ourselves as a Company of Thirsty Hearts and our sense of mission is to serve, connect, network, resource and pray for and with the Village Fires as they emerge around the KC metro area. In the bigger scope of our purpose in the KC region we desire to build trust and genuine friendship across the broad and diverse region with a transcendent dream of unifying the metro churches across all denominational, regional, and racial barriers. The outworking of this caliber of unity would be, as the Holy Spirit leads, to bring the entire church of KC together on occasion to united corporate prayer and compassionate service. An example of this would be the Global Day of Prayer, with its emphasis on a season of preparation in prayer, the one day GDOP prayer gathering on the Day of Pentecost, and the 90 days of citywide compassion ministry and outreach following.

If you would like to connect your prayer group as a regional "Village Fire" to be associated in friendship with the Citywide Prayer Movement, consider the following criteria with the leaders and those who attend your group:

  1. Your group must have a thirsty heart for the manifest presence of God.
  2. Your group must resonate with the mission and lifestyle core values of CPM
  3. Your group must agree with the Statement of Faith of CPM, which is the Apostle's Creed. (See link to review the Creed)
  4. You must be willing to associate across the broad range of leaders and believers that agree with the Apostle's Creed and promote unity, friendship and reconciliation within the Citywide Prayer Movement.
